As children, we have to go to school. As adolescents, we have to choose a field of study. As adults, we have to find a job and earn money. Life dictates duties and obligations, which are not bad things, because they set a rhythm and give a certain meaning to our lives.
From all those voices outside us exhorting us to do “the right thing » (The relation with yourself…a forgotten necessity.).
Doing the “right” thing. According to whom? So what is “the right thing” and who can give us a definition of it? And, more importantly, who determines that definition? You? Or the “other”?
Have you ever asked yourself
- What do YOU want?
- What are your gifts and talents and how you can use them?
- What are your passions?
- What makes you unique?
- How you can make yourself useful to others from your uniqueness?
Many question…difficult answers.
- What do you really want?
Very often, the answer to this question is not at all clear. We usually know what we don’t want (anymore), but not what we do want.
- What are your gifts and talents?
Talents are often confused by abilities; learned behaviour. Things we have made our own to get along in society.
Capacities and talents are not the same thing.
- Where do your passions lie? That is, when do you experience an inner joy and flow? When can you go so deeply into what you are doing that time and space disappear?
- What makes you unique?
Another difficult question.
Are you unique then? Yes indeed.
But how then? And how do you discover your uniqueness?
- How can you serve others (your own environment or society?) from the unique human being that you are?
Questions in layers.
If you know what you want and what your talents and passions are you know what makes you unique and how you can use that uniqueness to guide others.
When you have clear answers to all these questions, life changes.
- The illusion of the day, the race to the finish line in which we participate every day for one reason or another, the race against the clock … you start to question it all: is this what you want?
- Everyone has talents. And so do you. Often they’re hidden. But they’re there. You just have to bring them out.
- You have a unique blueprint, an energetic signature that is very much “you”.
This unique signature is what you are at the deepest level of your being and it is the “guide” of your life. This signature is expressed in what we call “passion”.
- The times when you ‘lose yourself’ are often the times when your passion emerges. You feel something bubbling up inside you. You feel your creativity and joie de vivre awakening.
- Once you’ve discovered who you really are, your awareness grows.
Your life changes.
Peace and stability in your life
When you have found the handles that give you footing in your life, you find peace and stability. You stop running, because that running is a demand from others. You stop repeatedly saying ‘yes’ to things that go against your feelings, your passion and your talents.
Note: this does not mean that you suddenly start doing “nothing”! Discovering your own path is hard work. Staying on track means being alert.
Once you are stepping on that path that is your own, you feel supported.
Supported by that little voice deep inside you that is always ready to show you the way.
Once you have found that stability and serenity in yourself, you shape your life yourself.
- You live the life you were born for.
- You enjoy working, putting your talents down, being of service to others….
- You are creative, you have ideas and want to share them with others.
- You experience joy in life.
- You experience peace and stability. You are resistant to whatever life throws your way because you are aware of how life works and is put together.
- You give yourself space and time to evolve.
In short: you are leader of your own life.
Self-leadership … in the deepest sense of the word.
